Wordpress 2.5 Image Upload Problem
Posted on March 31st, 2008 by Travis
The newly released Wordpress 2.5 does have one small bug in it related to image uploads. The new version takes advantage of some Java and Flash to run the image uploader that doesn’t place nice with Internet Explorer 7.
It seems to work fine with Firefox and on Macs, but PC’s running IE 7 are having issues.
To fix the issue, do the following:
1) Clear your browser cache more than once, then reboot your whole computer.
2) Download these files, and upload them where they belong in your install on your server.
3) Make sure you have the newest Flash plugin for your browser.
Then you should be all set until then next update.

While it’s true that those 2 files fix the problem in IE what of the problems in FF?
One website I maintain is password protected, on 2.3.3
I could upload images just fine & esp. with Flexible Upload but WP 2.5 pretty much zonked that plugin–but I was ok with that as long as I could still upload 6 pics at a time. Which I can…in IE. I can’t upload in FF at all. What could the problem be?
I’m not expecting this to get fixed anytime soon because there can’t be that many wesbites out there running with my exact same login script (it’s not a plugin-it’s paid for ) that relies almost entirely on perl and .htaccess.
Looking at error logs tells me that the file asyncupload.php is getting mixed in with the login script (those files are .shtml and are served dynamically–I can’t find them on the server at all) resulting in a 404 and no image getting uploaded.
What can’t understand is why would firefox get it so wrong? And why do browsers treat the exact same .htaccess and wp 2.5 so differently?
until I figure it out I upload in IE and then switch back to FF to carry on with editing posts.

mccormicky,
Did you update your flash plugins for FF lately? Make sure your flash is up to date and also clear out your cache.
We used Flex Upload too, but deactivated it.
As far as a secured blog needing PW access, Im not sure how that would be worked around. I’ve never had to deal with that issue myself.
I wonder if you were able to move the upload directory to an area OUTSIDE the protected area, would it work then? You could place it somewhere else, then maybe the images would upload correctly in FF.
You’d probably have to leave you current images where they are now, then have all future images load into the directory outside the protected area.
Installed the fix, thanks for that.
Seems to be working fine now on IE.
Unfortunately, fix seems to have broken the upload from Mac or Firefox.
(I update my site from multiple computers)
Anyone else familiar with this problem?
this is crazy to me …and i need mac to work also so like Wouter says what are we supposed to do? anyone have ideas or found a solution for both ie 7 and mac ….and i haven’t checked on windows ie 6 does it have an issue also?
Thought you may like to know a fix was found. There are some errant commas in some of the code. You can find a fix here: http://trac.wordpress.org/changeset/7573
Works perfectly and only takes seconds to fix.
Great Job Here…I enjoyed it..!GRNPortalToProsperity.com
